The Association of Physician Assistants in Cardiology (APAC) began in 2002 as a Special Interest Group of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) with the facilitation of Morton Diamond, M.D., a PA educator and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. APAC held its inaugural meeting at the AAPA annual conference in Boston, MA in May 2002. Under the leadership of its first President, John Flesher, PA-C, the organization was officially recognized as a Specialty Organization of the AAPA in 2003. In 2007 APAC sponsored its first Cardiovascular CME Conference, Heart to Heart, in conjunction with the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants. APAC continues to promote and serve Physician Assistants practicing in cardiology and works to heighten interest of cardiovascular medicine among PA students. APAC works closely with the American College of Cardiology to assure PA representation in the ACC and advocates for PAs in Cardiology.
